After 10 years of teaching in major urban areas of the San
Francisco Bay Area, Arlene, a third generation Berkeleyan,
began her real estate career in 1992 at Mason McDuffie Real
Estate, now Prudential. She acquired her broker’s license
in 2000 and has completed
more than $50 million in residential and income property sales.
In 2006 Arlene joined the Kensington office of Marvin Gardens
Real Estate, a prominent local brokerage with over 30 years
of real estate service in the greater East Bay, and in 2010 branched off on her own.
Arlene attended Longfellow and Jefferson Elementary schools,
Garfield Jr High (now King Middle School) and graduated from
Berkeley High School. She earned a BA and MA from UC Berkeley
and holds three California teaching credentials. Arlene's teaching
experiences included volunteer pre-school work in Head Start
in Nebraska, a summer program with Sioux Indian youth in Iowa,
tutoring in San Francisco's Fillmore district, teaching assistant
in Berkeley's first Head Start program and the Berkeley preschool
for children born with mental and physical disabilities. She
taught English in Kyoto, Japan, was a summer school teacher
at El Cerrito's Daruma no Gakko, a multi-cultural resource
teacher in the San Francisco public schools, an ESL teacher
for refugees in Berkeley and Richmond, and a home school teacher.
Arlene has travelled throughout Mexico, Japan, parts of Europe
and the UK and explored the Galapagos Islands with Wilderness
Travel. She studied classical piano in her youth and after
college ventured into black and white photography with a student
of Ansel Adams. Arlene is an avid reader and loves gardening.
Arlene’s wide range of community and education experiences
as volunteer, parent and teacher have augmented her real estate
business practice which is characterized by a high level of
responsibility and diligence, detailed problem solving, clear
and timely communications and conscientious thoroughness,
and commitment to the highest of professional standards and
ethics—all meant to ease the process for her clients.
Her
years of experience in different economic markets and a wide
variety of properties, ranging from TIC partnerships to the
impressive Max Baer residence in the Oakland hills, a mini
estate with redwood grove and creek in Kensington to a rent
controlled duplex in Berkeley, have enabled Arlene to sensibly
assess property value and advise sellers and buyers to their
best advantage.
Above all, Arlene’s
integrity and hard work on behalf of her clients have superseded
any expediency and she maintains her availability for them
long after the transaction is finished. Arlene’s commitment
to her clients is unwavering and she limits the number of simultaneous
clientele so that she may serve each one fully.
“We want to thank you..for your excellent service and
representation of us and our property in the sale of our Oakland
duplex….We greatly appreciated your clear, prompt, and
thorough communication with us over every aspect and every
question that arose. We felt listened to and clearly received
and understood. We greatly valued your ethics and integrity
in a business that doesn’t always carry that reputation…And,
we appreciated the viewpoint you have that you and the clients
are a team: you gave your professional opinion and input that
obviously come from wide experience, but you were also open
to our viewpoint: the conclusions that the three of us reached
always rang “right”. Great job, Arlene! Thank you! -Lu
and Dan S., Sellers, Oakland
